PS HEIs Needs Assessment Workshop

Within the framework of ROMOR, the faculty of Information Technology at the Islamic University of Gaza (IUG) and Birzeit University organized a workshop on the needs assessment of Palestinian Higher Education institutions in the field of research output management. The workshop was held on the 3rd of April 2017, at the faculty of IT at IUG and Birzeit University using the video conference technology, with the participation of the project partners from the Palestinian and European universities.

The workshop discussed in its first session, the analysis’ results of two surveys conducted by the team members at the Islamic University in cooperation with the University of Brighton to study the current situation of the research output management in Palestinian partner universities. The first survey targeted the academic staff and researchers, while the other one targeted the administrative bodies related to the research output management in these universities.

During the second session, a report about the experience of European Higher Education institutions in the management of open access institutional repositories was presented. Moreover, the third session included an open discussion between the project team and the relevant parties in the Palestinian partner universities, where questions and observations were raised from the participants about the project. 

The workshop ended with a closed session between the team members of the Palestinian and European partner universities to discuss the tasks to be implemented in the second work package of the project, which mainly focus on the preparation of the training materials for the academic and administrative staff in Palestinian partner universities in the fields of implementation and management of institutional repositories.

This workshop was the final activity of the first work package of the project, which aims to assess the needs of the Palestinian partner universities in the research output management.
